On September 25th, Dongfang Starlink, in collaboration with Earth's second satellite, released the "Space String" computing constellation - China's first space computing infrastructure for global and deep space applications.
It is reported that the "Space String" computing constellation is jointly promoted and constructed by the three body computing constellation co building party, Earth Satellite II, and the Eastern Star Chain. Dongfang Xinglian is responsible for overall design and operation, while Diwei II provides AI capability support and expands international markets. The constellation will organize satellite and orbital resources with computing services as the core, explore the coordination of space-based data processing, model deployment, and computing resources, and gradually form space computing service capabilities that are schedulable and available for users to call.
This release is a push towards systematic constellation construction through the accumulation of early-stage in orbit AI technology, satellite projects, and international cooperation.
According to Dongfang Xinglian, the "Space String" program adopts a collaborative architecture of "business layer" and "computing layer", allowing tasks to call computing resources beyond a single satellite as needed.
The business layer plans to deploy 720+data stars, also known as inference stars, to undertake data acquisition and business tasks;
The computing layer plans to deploy 360+computing power stars, also known as training stars, in the morning and evening orbits to provide computing support and can be further expanded according to demand.
The plan is to connect the two layers through inter satellite laser links, allowing business satellites to access the computing layer when needed, collaborate with other nodes and ground systems, and gradually organize dispersed in orbit computing resources into shared services.
According to the plan, the "Space String" will be promoted in stages with G1 verification star, G2 standard star, and G3 flagship star, allowing the engineering results and application feedback of each stage to provide a basis for the construction of the next stage. The G1 satellite is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2027.
Public information shows that Dongfang Xinglian Spatiotemporal Intelligence (Shandong) Technology Development Co., Ltd. is an enterprise established on September 2, 2021, located in Haiyang City, Yantai City, Shandong Province, mainly engaged in geographic remote sensing information services. The company operates the "Star Chain Time Space" brand and is one of the technical support and construction operation units for the "Oriental Insight" intelligent remote sensing constellation project jointly built by Wuhan University and Yantai City.
