Blue Origin has completed its first round of external financing, with a valuation of $140 billion. Founder Jeff Bezos has invested a total of $30 billion in this space company. This round of financing will provide ammunition for Blue Origin to catch up with SpaceX and provide financial support for its ambitious revenue growth plan.

On September 24th, according to The Wall Street Journal, Blue Origin has completed $10 billion in external financing, with a company valuation of approximately $140 billion.

Bezos himself injected an additional $2 billion in this round of financing, bringing his total investment since founding the company in 2000 to approximately $30 billion. According to sources familiar with the matter, the final financing scale may exceed the initial target of $10 billion.

This round of financing provides a rare public valuation reference for this private company, while also disclosing its aggressive financial expectations: Blue Origin's revenue of approximately $800 million in 2025 is expected to increase to $1.4 billion this year, and it is predicted that revenue will exceed $30 billion by 2030.

The company's future growth engines will include launch services for carrier rockets, satellite communication services, and artificial intelligence satellite networks, making it more directly competitive with SpaceX under Elon Musk.

Radical revenue expectations, growth potential to be verified

According to documents obtained by The Wall Street Journal, Blue Origin expects its revenue to grow more than 37 times from current levels to over $30 billion by 2030.

The achievement of this goal will mainly rely on three business lines: rocket launch requirements, satellite communication services that have not yet launched any equipment into orbit, and a planned artificial intelligence satellite constellation.

From the current perspective, this goal is quite ambitious. The annual revenue for 2025 is only $800 million, and it is expected to increase to $1.4 billion this year. Among them, the satellite communication business has not yet been substantially launched, and whether it can proceed as planned will be one of the key variables for the company to achieve its long-term revenue goals.

The core asset of Blue Origin is the reusable New Glenn heavy rocket, and the company has completed three New Glenn missions so far. However, in May of this year, a rocket exploded at a launch pad in Florida, causing a complete suspension of the New Glenn launch operation. The company is currently rebuilding related facilities.

The company stated in relevant documents that New Glenn will help it narrow the gap with SpaceX. Since taking office nearly three years ago, CEO Dave Limp has consistently emphasized accelerating mission advancement and internal technology development. The company also intends to fulfill its commitments in front of government clients such as NASA.

Comprehensive upgrade of competitive landscape with SpaceX

After the completion of this round of financing, Blue Origin's capital reserves will support it in challenging SpaceX on multiple fronts such as rocket launches, satellite deployments, and government space projects.

SpaceX is currently the absolute leader in the commercial aerospace industry, while Blue Origin is attempting to systematically compress its market leading advantage through multiple layouts such as New Glenn, satellite communications, and artificial intelligence satellite networks.

Bezos stated in an interview last year about the competitive landscape of the aerospace industry that:

SpaceX will succeed, Blue Origin will also succeed, and there are still some companies that have not yet been established that will also succeed in the future.

Bezos himself provided funding for Blue Origin by selling Amazon shares. According to Bloomberg Billionaires Index, its net worth was approximately $275 billion at the end of September this year.

This billion dollar external financing marks a significant turning point in the company's development, as Blue Origin shifts from relying solely on founder blood transfusions to a broader market-oriented financing model.
