On August 31st, according to media reports, Elon Musk, the world's richest man, has started drawing a new cake.
Last weekend, Musk described a plan aimed at keeping Earth habitable for approximately one billion years, starting with a group of autonomous thinking satellites.
Musk posted on the X platform that simply replacing fossil fuels with solar and wind energy is not enough to avoid what he called an "extremely serious extinction event," which occurs approximately once every 100 million years.
His solution is to deploy "perception capable satellites" powered by solar energy and controlled by AI. These satellites will be placed in a fixed position between the Earth and the Sun after launch.
Unlike traditional rocket launches, Musk envisions using a giant electromagnetic catapult to launch these satellites into space from the lunar surface. The AI carried by the satellite will continue to operate autonomously, making small adjustments to the satellite's orbit and position, rather than waiting for human instructions before taking action.
He believes that the electromagnetic mass projector can send the raw materials needed to manufacture satellites into space at a lower cost, and envisions building an electromagnetic launch orbit on the moon. Due to the much lower gravity of the moon compared to Earth and the absence of an atmosphere, it would be much easier to launch cargo into space from the moon than from Earth.
Musk also shared an estimate generated by Grok. Data shows that in the scenario of high sea level rise, by 2070, approximately 5% of Florida's land, or about 1.68 million acres, may face frequent flooding.
He also warned that humans only have about 50 years to take action, otherwise the way of life in coastal areas in the future will be completely different from today.
