On March 20th, it was reported that the organizational structure of Tencent TEG Technology Engineering Business Group has undergone some adjustments, and the AI Lab has been disbanded. Jiang Jie no longer serves as the director of the AI Lab, but other management responsibilities remain unchanged.
After this adjustment, some personnel from the original AI Lab will be transferred to the mixed element team to report to Yao Shunyu. The Industry University Research Cooperation Center is reserved. The head of the multimodal department reports to TEG President Lu Shan.
Last December, Yao Shunyu, a 27 year old former OpenAI researcher, joined Tencent as the Chief AI Scientist of the CEO/CEO Office, reporting directly to Tencent President Liu Chiping.
Tencent AI Lab is Tencent's enterprise level AI laboratory, established in Shenzhen in April 2016 with the core vision of "Make AI Everywhere".
The basic research directions of this laboratory include computer vision, speech technology, natural language processing, and machine learning.
However, compared to technology focused labs, Tencent AI Lab comes with built-in applications. The application exploration combines Tencent's scene and business advantages, focusing on four categories: games, digital humans, content, and social AI. The technology has been developed by WeChat QQ、 Using over a hundred Tencent products such as Daily Express and QQ Music, and exploring innovative combinations of AI with industries such as life sciences, healthcare, agriculture, and industry.
Tencent AI Lab once held an international leading position in the field of decision intelligence, with one of its most well-known achievements being the strategic collaborative AI "Juewu". Through deep learning in complex environments such as Honor of Kings, AI has demonstrated decision-making and collaboration abilities that surpass those of human professional players. This not only promotes the industrialization of gaming, but also provides simulation references for complex decision-making in the real world.
The laboratory has also actively explored the application of AI in the field of life sciences. For example, its developed "Tencent Miying" imaging cloud and related pathological analysis technology use computer vision to assist doctors in early cancer screening. In addition, the laboratory has made significant breakthroughs in protein structure prediction (such as tFold) and drug development, aiming to use AI to improve the efficiency of medical resource allocation.
In the past decade, Tencent AI Lab has attracted many top scientists with profound influence in the global artificial intelligence field, including Yao Xing, who led the establishment of AI Lab in 2016, Zhang Tong, who was appointed as the first person in charge of AI Lab in 2017, Yu Dong, who is in charge of Tencent Seattle AI Lab, and Zhang Zhengyou, who has long served as the director of AI Lab and Robotics X Robotics Lab.
In 2019, Zhang Tong resigned from Tencent AI Lab and returned to Hong Kong to teach. At the end of 2025, Yu Dong resigned.
In the organizational restructuring in June 2024, Zhang Zhengyou stepped down as the director of Tencent AI Lab and was succeeded by Jiang Jie, Vice President of Tencent Group, but he continued to serve as the director of Tencent Robotics X.

Additionally, it is understood that DeepSeek is currently experiencing personnel changes and adjustments; It is reported that Guo Daya, a core member who participated in major projects such as DeepSeekMath, DeepSeek-V3, and DeepSeek-R1, has resigned.
From Tencent's AI power to the convergence of hybrid big models, the resignation of Lin Junyang, the head of Alibaba's Qianwen big model, to the flow of DeepSeek's core R&D talents, it can be seen that the AI competition among domestic technology companies has entered a more brutal and pragmatic new stage.
