On March 3, 2026, we noticed a discussion in the community about the source code and open source compliance of the Tabbit browser using the "Reading Frog" project. The team attaches great importance to this matter and conducted a thorough self-examination of the project's open source and compliance situation in the first place. Now, we will explain the timeline of the incident and subsequent measures.
On December 30, 2025, our team paid attention to read frame while developing translation functionality( https://github.com/mengxi-ream/read-frog )Open source project. At that time, the project repository did not contain any open-source license statements. After evaluation, the team conducted a project fork and developed it as an independent project.
On January 2, 2026, the original author of the project added the GPLv3 protocol to commit a0679e2. Due to our failure to continue merging the subsequent code of the original project, we were unable to pay timely attention to this agreement change.
Although our fork code behavior occurred before the explicit open source agreement was added to the project, we fully respect and understand the original author's ownership of the project and their choice of agreement. We will remove this translation project from the new version of Tabbit browser and have fully open sourced it https://github.com/Tabbit-Browser/read-frog For community review and use, to give back to the open source community through practical actions.
