Huawei's Li Wenguang: Research and development investment in L2 to L4 autonomous driving may increase by 3-5 times

On September 12th, Li Wenguang, President of Huawei's Intelligent Driving Product Line, said that with the development of technology towards L3 and L4 autonomous driving, the threshold for R&D investment is rapidly increasing. From L2 to L4, the investment may need to increase by 3-5 times. For example, the computing power on the vehicle side needs to be increased from hundreds of TOPS to 1500-2000 TOPS, and the cloud computing resources need to be increased from tens of EFLOPS to nearly 200 EFLOPS. The annual rental cost of computing power has increased from several billion yuan to over 10 billion yuan. Li Wenguang also stated that ecological construction around autonomous driving, such as customer parking, customer charging, and customer car washing, will become important measures to enhance the user experience and stickiness of autonomous driving.
