Recently, Changan Automobile Group's restructuring has achieved a significant breakthrough. A preparatory group composed of core members such as Changan Automobile and Chenzhi Group has been established, and the restructuring is expected to land in August. It is highly likely that the headquarters of new state-owned enterprises will settle in Chongqing. According to reports, Changan Automobile Chairman Zhu Huarong may become a popular candidate for the new head of a state-owned enterprise, and the candidate may be finalized this month. Changan Automobile responded that the company name and leadership have not been announced yet, but it is highly likely that the headquarters will be located in Chongqing.
This restructuring stems from the reform arrangements of the State owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council for the Weapon Equipment Group. Changan Automobile announced on June 5th that the automotive business of Weapon Equipment Group will be separated into independent state-owned enterprises. After the separation, the indirect controlling shareholder of Changan Automobile changed to the new state-owned enterprise, while the actual controller remained unchanged. This move will enhance its industry status, obtain more efficient decision-making support and policy tilt, and help integrate resources and improve market competitiveness.
As one of the four major automobile groups in China, Changan Automobile has set a clear goal of "selling 5 million vehicles and accounting for 60% of new energy by 2030" in recent years, and restructuring is seen as a key step towards achieving strategic upgrading. In the first half of 2025, Changan Automobile's cumulative sales reached a new high of 1.355 million vehicles, including 450000 new energy vehicle models, a year-on-year increase of 48.8%. During the same period, Chang'an accelerated the "Hai Na Bai Chuan" plan, focusing on the five core regions of Southeast Asia, Central and South America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Eurasia through the "152 Global Layout", and has established over 14000 channel outlets in more than 100 countries.
