On the afternoon of May 21st, Chen Jiancheng, Vice President of Global Sales and Head of Greater China Business at TomTom, gave a speech at the 2025 Global Spatio Temporal Intelligence Conference (WGDC2025), stating that everything from the steering wheel, check-in points to smart city planning is driven by maps. He believes that the speed at which map merchants update a map is very fast now, with map updates taking only 30 milliseconds, which is also the most important development for the map industry in the future.

Chen Jiancheng introduced that TomTom combines with Amazon Meta、 Microsoft and other Internet giants have built and launched Orbis maps based on 57 million POIs. This map combines the advantages of professional maps, self built maps, and open-source maps to maintain high quality, flexibility, and wide data coverage. From the lowest level interactive maps of various cities to 3D data display, from navigation search and real-time road conditions to ADAS, 3D maps, etc., Chen Jiancheng believes that Orbis maps are the future map for everyone going out to sea. Its first dataset was released on July 26, 2023. In the future, there will be over 600 million smart devices, including sensor derived observation data from drivers covering over 35 million kilometers and 330 million signs per day, as well as TomTom's own collection vehicles, continuously participating in map updates.
