On May 28, the ByteDance Security and Risk Control Department announced in an email that, in order to prevent the risk of data leakage, the third-party AI development software, including AI programming tools Cursor and Windsurf, will be disabled in some batches from June 30, and the byte's programming assistant Trae will be used as an alternative.

In March of this year, ByteDance launched the domestic version of Trae, claiming to be the "first AI native integrated development environment tool (AI IDE) in China", equipped with Doubao-1.5-pro and supporting switching between full blooded DeepSeek R1 and V3 models.

Trae has been previously released overseas, with built-in GPT-4o and Claude-3.5-Sonnet models. The models equipped in the domestic version are different, but the functions are basically the same.

Trae is positioned as an "intelligent collaborative AI IDE" that supports code completion, code understanding, bug fixing, and natural language based code generation.

In addition, the domestic version of Trae is equipped with a new Builder mode, which can help developers generate applications end-to-end through natural language description: simply describe the requirements in simple language, Trae can quickly build the project framework, and continue to optimize and modify, producing usable code.
